I must admit that Life has been hectic like never before. My passion to serve people and help them discover their true power has always been a driving force in my life. In the midst of living our passion there comes a time when we just want to sit back and take some quick inventory of our life. I started to do this, this weekend, while I was at it, I discovered an old movie that I have been wanting to watch. Peaceful Warrior!
While I do not watch many movies, this is one movie I personally believe is a MUST WATCH!
Here is how I have written this specific blog for you. I have handpicked a few lessons with few actions after each lesson. I suggest you read the lesson and take the warrior action. Honestly, it was difficult to shortlist five lessons that I learned from this movie. I had a tough time handpicking five and I am sure if you decide to watch the movie you will have your lessons too.
Lesson 1: A Peaceful Warrior Knows That The War Exists Within!
Every time we face a challenge in life we start looking for answers in the outside world. We start asking several questions to the world outside and we do find the answers. Most answers we find are short lived and we fall back into the same pattern of challenges sooner or later. The key to finding the answer is, not to seek the solution outside but from within. Introspection of the world within leads to the interpretation of the world outside. Most wars we fight are not outside but within. Win the war within.
This was one of the wonderful lines told during the movie –
“Everyone wants to tell you what to do and what’s good for you. They don’t want you to find your own answers, they want you to believe theirs. I want you to stop gathering information from the outside and start gathering it from the inside.”
Warrior Action: At this moment think of the toughest question you are trying to answer and Start finding answers from within and stop relying on answers from outside of you.
Lesson 2: There Are No Ordinary Moments!
One beautiful quote during the movie is “There is never nothing going on” and it is up to us to make every moment count and make it the best or let that moment pass by. Truly there is so much you can experience every moment. There is so much going on around us. We are not quite aware of what is going on. Building that awareness is the key. Each moment truly lived brings you closer to being fully content with life. Stay aware of every moment and make it count.
Warrior Action: Take a piece of paper and look at your watch. Notice every possible thing going on around you for next 30 seconds. (you will find some extraordinary moments happening around you)
Lesson 3: The Highest Purpose In Life Is Service!
You find the true purpose of your existence only when you selflessly serve others. Just imagine how content or happy were you when you helped an old man or a blind man cross the street. There is no greater thing to do in life than to serve or help others. Most people run after finding out their purpose in life but you will discover the true purpose of your life when you start serving others. Each one of us is gifted with talents, and it’s our responsibility to share it with the world. Service knows no ego, serving others leads to you knowing who you truly are and what your true purpose is.
Warrior Action: Identify one talent or skill that you would like to share with others selflessly. Start serving others selflessly and you will find peace within you.
Lesson 4: Life Is About Absolute Vulnerability!
You will never discover who you truly are unless you start living life on the edge! Being vulnerable is the virtue of a Peaceful Warrior. The truth is Death isn’t sad. The sad thing is: most people don’t live at all. To live you must be willing to be absolutely vulnerable and when we do, we truly experience life beyond imagination.
Warrior Action: Be absolutely vulnerable for a day, do what you have been holding yourself back from doing and see the result.
Lesson 5: This Moment Is The Only Thing That Matters!
This is the most profound lesson. Simple and the most powerful. Life is nothing but this moment and that’s all that matters.
Where are you?
What time is it?
What are you?
Warrior Action: Any minute you are stuck just ask if this is the ONLY moment you have what would you do?
